Browsing for a new truck… torn between Tundra and F150

I’m stuck deciding between a Tundra Platinum or a nicely equipped SR5, and the F150 XLT with color-matched bumpers. I know this is mostly an F150 forum, but I wanted to hear from folks who’ve driven or owned both.

I’ve been a long-time 4Runner owner and swore I’d stick with Toyota, but the new Tundra posts have me second guessing everything.

Do you tow often? And if you do, how much? With Toyota, you’re getting strong resale and reliability. With Ford, you get more tow capacity and usually a better ride, but repairs can add up. You really should drive both and go with what feels right. I went with a Tundra because I like to keep my trucks long term.

Nah, I hardly ever tow anything. And yeah, I get that Toyota holds value, but the pricing lately and the newer engine concerns have me second guessing. I’ll definitely take both for a spin and see which one feels better behind the wheel.

I had a 2nd gen Tundra for nearly 17 years… sold it for more than half what I paid. Try doing that with a Ford. Barely had to do anything besides regular maintenance, so Toyota definitely earned my money again with the 3rd gen.

I just got rid of my 2018 F150 and bought a 2021 Tundra. I used to only buy Fords and they served me well, but that 2018 gave me non-stop problems in the last 100k miles. Cam phasers three times, full timing job, transmission swap, radiator hoses, ABS module… then the rear end started making noise. Enough was enough.

Was that the Ford–GM 10-speed trans?

Yeah, the 10r80. Mine had a CDF drum failure at 140k. I heard they updated the part in 2023, so my new trans has the fix now.
