Hey guys, I need help. My 2017 Toyota Sienna XLE AWD just broke down while I was driving on I70 in Ohio. I heard something bumping on the ground and when I stopped, I saw that a metal pipe attached to the back wheels came loose from its screws. It looks like it’s attached to the transmission. Anyone know what this could be or how serious it is? I’m kinda freaking out here
Yikes! That sounds like something with the rear driveshaft. I think it’s a joint that broke, but if the driveshaft is damaged, that could make things worse. Is the car still drivable?

It’s not drivable, I had to stop right away. The pipe was hanging down and dragging on the ground. Not sure if I can fix it myself or if I need a tow
That’s definitely not something you can fix on your own. Looks like the driveshaft might be messed up too, so you’ll probably need a tow to a shop to get it sorted.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. Just worried about how much this will cost. Anyone have a rough idea on repairs for something like this?
Oh no, that’s a bummer. I’ve had something similar happen before and it cost around $500 to get the driveshaft replaced. If it’s just the joint, maybe it’ll be cheaper? Hope it’s not too bad for you!

Thanks for the info! That gives me a little hope. Fingers crossed it’s just the joint and not the whole driveshaft. I’ll have to tow it to a shop and see what they say
From what you’re describing, it seems like the rear driveshaft is damaged. It’s definitely a good idea to get it towed to a mechanic ASAP before it causes more damage. You might need a replacement part.
@Rebel
Yeah, I figured I’d need a replacement part. Hopefully, the shop can give me a fair price. Thanks for the advice!
Sorry you’re dealing with this! Looks like you’ll need a pro for this one. Have you tried reaching out to a mobile mechanic or just a regular shop? They might be able to come to you.

I was thinking about calling a mobile mechanic, but I’m not sure if they can fix something like this on-site. I might just get it towed to a shop.
