Consumer Reports slams the Tacoma in November 2024 issue

Seems like Consumer Reports has some strong opinions about the Tacoma. Anyone read through it yet? Thoughts?

Consumer Reports always leans against non-American brands, like they’ve got some grudge. They’ve been called out before, like with the Suzuki Samurai.

Maybe, but they also lean towards environmental features and favor things like handling, tech, and interior space—stuff crossover buyers love. But truck buyers? We’re usually looking for different things.

Actually, CR usually puts foreign cars at the top. And with Suzuki, they even found the rollover risk in their own tests. CR has pushed for safer cars with those ratings for years.

For what it’s worth, the Tacoma got #2 in the midsize truck category. Not a total fail, right?

Yeah, but you’ll find some hardcore Tacoma fans that take any negative feedback personally. Just look around this forum.

@Terry
Haha, ‘Nice Honda Ridgeline, loser!’ Sound about right? I get a bit defensive too, but hey, I’m aware of the flaws in my Taco—I just don’t mind them.

People still take Consumer Reports seriously?

Honestly, CR is probably the worst for reviews. Just bad all around.

No Tacoma generation has been the best midsize truck on paper. But they’re more reliable, easy to work on, have better aftermarket options, and hold their resale value way better. CR and other mags don’t look at those things.

Can you share what CR actually said? Would be helpful to see how they’re framing the review.

Yeah, they dropped its road test score due to handling and ride quality, and the cabin supposedly isn’t up to par with rivals. Not all bad, though; it was rated second in its class, right after the Ridgeline. For most people, the Ridgeline probably is a better choice.

@Terry
But is the Ridgeline really a truck? Same with the Maverick… I don’t know.

What exactly did they call out on the 2024 Tacoma?
