Trying to figure out what’s the big difference between the Corolla Cross and the Rav4. Anyone got the scoop?
Was at the dealership recently… the Cross is smaller and less powerful than the Rav4.

So it’s basically worse. Great.

It’s $6k cheaper than the RAV4 for a reason lol.
If you’ve seen a Corolla Cross, you’d notice it’s quite a bit smaller than the Rav4.
They’re on different platforms. The Corolla Cross is built on the Corolla platform, but the Rav4 uses something else… can’t remember exactly.

Pretty sure it’s based on the Camry’s platform. If we’re talking about the architecture, it’s TNGA-K/GA-K.

If the Rav4 was based on the Camry platform, you’d think we’d have a plug-in hybrid Camry by now. Guess the Prius is Toyota’s answer to that.
The Corolla Cross is smaller, cheaper, and less powerful. It’s really meant to be a more affordable SUV for those who want something bigger than a sedan but don’t want to spend as much as on a Rav4.
The RAV4 is bigger, has a bigger engine, and the interior is nicer. The Corolla Cross is competing with the Chevy Trax, while the Rav4 goes up against the Equinox.

Definitely smaller in size, but I think the Cross looks better. If you don’t need the extra space, the Cross is great. Otherwise, go for the Rav4!

I like the round wheel wells on the Cross way more than the square ones on the Rav4.

I checked both when I was shopping. The Cross feels more like a hatchback version of the Corolla, not really a full compact SUV. It’s smaller and less powerful, but it’s good if you’re looking for something more car-like. I went with the Rav4 because I needed more space and towing capacity.

The Rav4 is a compact SUV, and the Corolla Cross is a subcompact. So the Cross is a size down, with fewer options and a slightly less powerful engine. Comparing them is kind of like comparing a Hyundai Kona to a Tucson. It really depends on what you need out of your vehicle.

The Rav4 has way better resale value and is less likely to break down.

Does the Cross have reliability issues? I just got a Rav4 for my wife, but I’m thinking about the Cross for myself when it’s time to switch.

Not really. The Corolla platform is known for being super reliable.

The Cross is generally reliable, but I’ve replaced a few CVT transmissions on them under warranty. Haven’t seen that issue with the current Rav4s. Overall, the Rav4 has a stronger track record.

It’s not that the Cross is bad—it’s just that the Rav4 is rock solid.
