I really dislike the fake engine noise. It’s just plain silly. When I had my truck in for an oil change last year, the dealership first told me it didn’t have it. Then they looked it up and said they couldn’t turn it off.

It’s a Tundra, not a Freightliner. I wouldn’t mind the engine sound enhancement if we could control the noise level ourselves, but when it’s set to max, it’s just not enjoyable. A level 3 out of 10 would have been a better choice from the factory.
By the way, not one person at the dealer knew about the enhancement except for a technician who walked by during drop-off and said, ‘best mod I ever made to my Tundra!’
When I read this title, I thought I was seeing some silly Tesla stuff. They’re adding engine sounds now? Seriously?

Ask the dealer about Toyota’s Traffic Jam Assist if you want to confuse them.

Does every 2024 model have this feature, or just some?

I believe it’s just the upgraded trims with the JBL stereo.

Just curious, how does it sound now with the feature off?

Normal acceleration is about the same, but it has more turbo sound now. When you hit the gas, it sounds much better, like a twin turbo truck should—not like your head is in a muffler.
I use manual mode a lot for engine braking on hills, and that’s where the enhancement drove me nuts. It’s now very quiet with a hint of growl. It’s like drinking a fine whiskey instead of something cheap from your neighbor.
The good thing is, you can always ask to have the enhancement turned back on if you want.

As others mentioned, Carista lets you do this yourself and offers many other options too.
I also turned off the active noise management, which was annoying. I replaced my air filters with TRD filters and removed the sound dampening from the air boxes, so I can really hear the turbo. I love the sound of a V8, but I also enjoy the turbo whine. Why should they sound the same? I drive the Tundra and my Sierra; both sound different and perform differently.

I got an OBD2 tool that lets me modify it myself. I’ll turn it off just to test.

Here’s how to turn it off if the dealer is confused:
Active noise control > utility > customize > others > ANC/ESE.
Turning off both ANC and ESE will remove the fake exhaust noise.

But unless you buy that device, the dealer has to do it, right?

I know this is unpopular, but I actually like the fake engine sounds. I understand why people dislike it though.

It really depends on how you use it. If someone tows a lot or downshifts manually, it can get annoying quickly. Just driving the truck for errands, it’s fine.

Yeah, I had mine turned off. I like it without it.

People keep talking about Carista. Is there a Windows version or competitor? I already have an OBD Link EX cable (USB) and would prefer not to buy a new OBD connector.

The dealer has to do it or you can use something like Carista.

Is this feature on all 2024 models? I have an SR5 non-hybrid.

I don’t think the SR5 has it. You need the upgraded JBL stereo.
