The bad actuators were mostly in the first 200-300 '22 models. Toyota swapped both turbos under warranty. Trucks would still run but in limp mode. Funny enough, Lexus used the same motor overseas for years without issues—guess they had a better supplier.
Modern engines have way too much electrical crap. Just looking at that third pic gives me a headache.
It’s actually a pretty straightforward swap. I think Toyota is replacing way more engines than necessary, but you know how they are.

Most we’re replacing didn’t show any signs of failure. Haven’t seen one lock up yet. Social media made this a bigger deal than it probably is.

You won’t get warnings. It just starts knocking, then boom.
Did you pull the cab or take it out the front? My shop lifts the cab, but I know some guys pull it through the front.

I pulled it out the front. A little tricky, but once you get used to it, it’s fine.
