I’m picking up my Sienna on Saturday and I convinced the dealership not to apply their usual tint. Does anyone know if the factory already adds tint, or does it depend on where it’s made? I’m planning to get the tint done elsewhere, so I’m curious what’s already there.
They come with darker glass in the back, like most SUVs and vans. It’s not film tint but the glass itself is tinted. I think it’s around 25%, but I’m not 100% sure.

Does that darker glass block UV rays, or is it just for looks? I’m wondering if it provides any sun protection.
@Branley
From what I know, it doesn’t block UV rays like a proper tint would. It’s better than clear glass, though. You might find this page helpful: Dark factory glass vs aftermarket tint. Keep in mind, it’s from a company selling tint.
@Branley
I thought all cars came with glass that blocks UV.

Got it, thanks! I think it’s neat that it’s the glass itself that’s darker.
The rear windows have smoked glass, not an actual tint.
The sliding doors and back windows have what’s called privacy glass, not tint. It’s usually around 35%. I had mine redone with ceramic tint at 2.5% all around, except I just did the strip at the top of the windshield.
Our 2020 model not only had privacy glass but also retractable mesh shades on the rear side windows and quarter panels. Pretty handy.
I got a 2024 Woodland two months ago. It didn’t have factory tint, but the back windows were privacy glass. I added 35% tint all around, so now it’s probably close to 5% combined.
Yes, SUVs and vans usually have the back windows tinted straight from the factory, though it’s not film tint. Once I noticed it, I started seeing it on every SUV and van. The front windows and windshield are normally not tinted.
@Cody
Thanks! Any idea what percentage they use or what kind of tint it is?

I’m not sure, but I’ve read it’s around 20%. It’s probably dyed glass rather than a film. Here’s a thread that mentions it: link.
@Cody
Does the dyed glass still block UV rays, or do you need to add tint for that?

It blocks some light, but probably not everything. For example, my Tesla has a glass roof that’s dyed but doesn’t block infrared light, so I added ceramic tint for heat rejection. I’m not sure about the exact specs for Sienna windows.
@Cody
Funny your tint guy didn’t correct you—factory tint is usually called privacy glass. That’s what I’ve always heard.
@Cody
Some states don’t allow tinted front windows, but the back ones are fine.
