Exhaust Flap… Always Open or Not?

I have a 2023 3.0 premium stock and saw an “Exhaust Flap” option in the Bimmercode app. I heard that setting it to “On/Open” doesn’t actually keep it open all the time, and people say pulling the fuse is the only way. Can anyone confirm if Bimmercode really keeps the flap open? Any other ways to do it without pulling the fuse?

Also, does keeping it open all the time cause any problems? There has to be a reason it’s closed at startup, right?

Only way to keep it open permanently through software is with a tune.

Bimmerlink resets to default every time you turn the car off.

Yeah, it’s not a permanent change. You’d need to open Bimmercode and deactivate the flap every time you start the car. The only way to make sure it stays open is pulling the fuse.

BimmerLink, not BimmerCode, can do it once. Best way is to open the valve first, then pull the fuse. Or just get a tune.

Just make sure the valve is open before you pull the fuse. Super easy to do.

Will that cause any error codes or problems?

Nope, I’ve had mine like this for a year. No issues at all.

I took a pipe cleaner, removed the fuzz, and tied the actuator open under the car.

But my actuator was already broken, so this was a fix for me.

Just an idea if you don’t want to mess with fuses.

What exactly does the flap do? How does it change the driving experience?

Makes the car louder.

Makes the car louder.

When it’s open or closed?

Open. Sport mode opens the flap, making the car louder with pops and bangs. Comfort mode keeps it closed, so it’s quieter.

@CathyGenesis
Got it… time to look into this more. Thanks! :smile:
