Extended warranty... worth it?

I just got myself a 2025 LC250 and I’m planning to keep it for a while. I’m thinking about an extended warranty from a reseller since these turbo hybrid vehicles are still pretty new. There’s a platinum plan that includes a $0 deductible for 7 years or up to 125K miles, priced at $1920. Is it really worth it? Has anyone here ever gotten one of these plans after their purchase?

Honestly, with all the electronics in new cars, a warranty might be a smart move. If something goes wrong, it could be pricey to fix.

Yeah, I totally agree. The tech in these cars can be a pain if it fails.

So what exactly does the warranty cover? I mean, Toyota gives you a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty already.

Good point. I’d rather take the chance and pay out of pocket later than drop $1920 upfront if I don’t need it.

I think it depends on how much you plan to drive. But hey, check out that warranty thread I found. You can negotiate the price since that’s key.

Thanks for the link! I want to see what others have paid.

Is this warranty directly through Toyota, or is it from a third party? If it’s the latter, I’d be wary. Those usually come with lots of exclusions.

It’s through a Toyota dealer in another state. So I guess it’s not a direct Toyota warranty.

Yeah, just remember to negotiate a decent price if it’s marked up. And definitely ask about the fine print.

Coming from a mechanic perspective, I think it’s a good idea to get the warranty. The repair costs on new models can be super high. Plus, with all the new tech, anything could go wrong.

That makes sense, especially with all the electronics! Thanks for the advice.

I grabbed a similar warranty for another vehicle a while back, and honestly, it paid off. Just make sure you really understand what it covers - don’t get caught out.

That’s good to hear! I was a bit unsure, but it seems like it’s worth considering. Thanks.

In some places, if your warranty is through a third party, it might not be as reliable as expected. That’s something to consider.

Yeah, I’ve got to dig deeper into that. Appreciate your input.

Just curious, but when does the extended warranty actually start? I was told it kicks in as soon as you buy it, so that’s like a countdown on the years too.

That’s what I heard too. If I get the 10-year plan, it basically gives me only 7 years of coverage.

@Kerry
Wow, didn’t think about that. If you use your car a lot, it adds up fast.
