Finally got around to ceramic coating my truck… anyone else try it?

Took the weekend to ceramic coat the truck and I think it turned out great. Used a kit from Gtechniq. Wasn’t too hard to do myself and way cheaper than the dealer option.

How much did it cost you to do it all yourself?

I got a Gtechniq kit and picked up a few extra things from Adams Polishes. All in, it was around $200 and I still had enough left to do my car too.

@Dex
I just picked up a 2025 model and the dealer tried to sell me a ceramic coating for $1400. Seemed way too high so I passed on it.

Yeah that’s pretty steep. I’d rather find a local detailer than go through the dealer. But honestly, if you’re up for it and can spare half a day, doing it yourself isn’t that bad at all.

A big part of the cost is usually for paint correction before applying the coating. If your truck is still new and the paint’s in good shape, you can do it yourself and get a solid result. There’s a bunch of how-to videos on YouTube and plenty of good retail brands. It may not last quite as long as a pro job, but for a brand-new vehicle, 3–5 years is still a good deal.

@Dex
I’ve been thinking about doing it myself too. What kind of polisher did you use? I don’t own one and I know some are really pricey. Don’t want to overspend but I also don’t want junk that won’t work.

@Amar
I used a Griot’s Garage dual-action polisher with Lake Country pads. But even a cheap one from Harbor Freight worked fine for me in the past. The key is patience and technique more than fancy gear.

Truck looks great… unrelated, what size tires are those? They look like a perfect fit.

They’re 265/75r16 Toyo Open Country. Put them on about 3 months ago and they’ve been riding great.

@Dex
Good to know. Are you running any kind of lift or is this just stock height?

Just Bilstein 5100s up front, set at the third notch which gives around 1 inch of lift. Truck sits nice and level now.

@Dex
Are those tires noisy on the road? And how do the 5100s ride compared to stock? I’m still stock and thinking about switching for a smoother ride.

Tires are really quiet and the ride with the 5100s is super smooth. It was a big difference from the stock SR setup. Not the most premium setup out there, but for around $300 it was a great upgrade.

@Dex
Setup looks clean… are you running any spacers with those wheels?

No spacers for now, but I’m thinking about switching to wheels with close to zero offset soon.

Looks really good, nice job.

Thanks a lot!

I know pictures never really show it like in real life, but I can already tell it must look amazing in person. That truck is clean bro :oncoming_fist:
