I just got a Japanese import 100 series. It’s my first Toyota, first V8, and first AWD car. I’m really excited to pick it up soon. Already have 10 different tabs bookmarked on this forum, but what are some things I should know about this vehicle before I start driving it?
The exhaust sounds interesting. Is the original engine still in it?

Yeah, it’s still the original with 118k miles on it.

Make sure you get the timing belt and water pump done if it hasn’t been replaced yet. Also, check the AHC system to see if it works properly, if it has one.
@Flowky
The timing belt and water pump are definitely first on my list. No AHC on this one, luckily.
Congrats! What size tires and wheels are on it? It looks amazing. I have a 100 series too, it’s twin-locked and I take it on tracks around Melbourne, Australia. I also have a Toyota Century V12. The 100 series has 420,000 km and is super comfortable on highways. Offroad, it’s unstoppable.
@Micah
It has 16×8.5 Nomad wheels with 33” Falken tires.
Make sure you check the heater ‘Ts’ as soon as possible.

I’ve heard about that… is it worth swapping to metal parts, or should I just stick with OEM?

I went with OEM parts. Some say brass is better. Mine were almost cracked, so I’m glad I replaced them. I also did the timing belt, idlers, and water pump at 100k miles, and they still looked brand new. The heater tees, though, were in bad shape.

OEM works fine. I did mine at 25 years and they were still in great condition. Also, while you’re at it, check the exhaust system. The 100 series V8 is super smooth, it doesn’t sound like a noisy RAM V8.
It looks beautiful.
Where are you in Virginia? I’m from Richmond, would be cool to see you on the roads.

I’ll be in the Fan area until the summer. I plan on heading to CNC if you go there.
Those exhaust pipes are terrible.
The double exhaust looks really nice.

You add lift and big tires to increase clearance and departure angle, and then ruin it all with those awful exhaust pipes.
