Hey Land Cruiser owners, I’m considering buying a 2001 Land Cruiser and I’m curious if there are any major or common issues I should be aware of. I’ve heard some things but would love to get insights from actual owners. Any thoughts or experiences would be super helpful.
Exhaust manifold cracks and leaks are pretty common, as well as issues with the heater T’s by the firewall. Timing belt and water pump are also things to watch for since they can break if not done. And don’t forget about the front diff—they can explode with the 4.3 gears.
@Bran
I’d say the AC gasket is a major concern. The timing belt is important maintenance but not a lot of breakage issues reported from that. Exhaust issues can happen in some years, but I’ve had no problems with mine. The diff can fail, but it’s more common in the early years.
@Davis
I get that. I see a lot coming in on the hook. The exhaust manifold issues were eased after 04 when they changed the material. Same with the diff when they switched to a 4:11 gear.
It ended up selling before I could buy… only had 104K on it. I’m kinda bummed I missed out on it.
