Had my body shop color match the grille surround and bulge. It meant removing the inner TRD grille, but I think it looks cleaner than the all-black look. Thoughts?
You know, you can actually take out the inner part of the TRD grille and move it over to the color-matched one. It’s just about six screws and a few tricky release tabs. Might break a few tabs, but they don’t really affect its stability.

Oh, cool to know! My TRD one had a hole in it though… on the left side of the picture. It’s not obvious since it’s all black.

Here’s a pic of mine with the swap. https://placehold.co/600x400.png

That red and black combo looks awesome! I’ve got two spare bumper end caps that I’d like to color match, but I got quoted around $500… Seems too high for me. I found some DIY paint kits on eBay for $60. Thinking about trying it myself.
@Kimberly
Thanks! My paint job for the four corners and grille cost me around $750. Radiant red wasn’t available from the factory for TRD parts. I was too deep into the project by the time I got the paint estimate, so I went for it. For $60, a DIY attempt sounds worth a shot. Or you could look for pre-painted parts from places like bumpershelz, but it all depends on your color code.
@Lex
Yeah, I’m pretty happy with how yours turned out, and it’s pro work, so that’s a plus. Since I already have the extra bumper caps, I might try it myself first. Worst case, I stick with the chrome.
@Kimberly
Nothing wrong with that! Good luck with the project, hope it comes out great.
@Lex
That red and black look really pops! Nice job.
Where’d you get it done? Looks awesome. I’ve got a Black 2016 Limited and want to swap out my chrome grille.

Thanks! I had it done by a body shop while they were fixing hail damage. I think they just got it off eBay.
Looks so much better.

I agree, thanks!
Looks great! I’d stick with OEM Toyota grilles over aftermarket ones any day.
Maybe it’s just the photos, but the color seems a bit off.

You can tell a slight difference in person, especially in certain lighting. The new pieces are definitely newer looking, but overall, it doesn’t bother me much.
@Kimberly
If you’re happy with it, that’s what counts!
Thinking about color-matching the bumper end caps next, but I keep getting quoted around $500. I might try it myself with a cement gray paint kit instead.
Are you planning to sell the grille you took off?

Not sure yet. Are you interested? I’m in Texas. Just a heads-up, it has a pretty big hole on the passenger side (as shown in the pic), but it’s hard to see with it being all black.
