I’m hearing a grinding noise whenever I brake, but the mechanic confirmed the brakes are fine. The noise is consistent, sounds like metal on metal, and occurs regardless of speed or braking force. I’ve had my brakes and wheel bearings checked. Could it be the CV joints, wheel bearings, or suspension? Any ideas?
Even if your mechanic says your brakes are fine, a grinding noise when you brake is not typical. There could be a few reasons why this is occurring. Perhaps the braking rotors themselves are worn rather than simply the pads. Perhaps there is a rock jammed in the brakes. In some circumstances, a defective calliper may be to blame. Don’t disregard this problem! Return your automobile to a mechanic, preferably a different one, and describe the sounds in full. Mention how long it lasts and whether it varies based on how fast you are driving or how hard you pump the brake. There is a possibility that it could be something else, such as worn suspension parts, but getting this rectified should halt the grinding noise and make your car safer to drive.
