How do you remove snow without scratching your car?

Hi, I just bought my first Subaru and they’re predicting snow this week. I’m worried about scratching my car’s paint with the usual snow brushes. Does anyone have recommendations for a good tool or method to safely remove snow? Thanks in advance!

A lot of people use leaf blowers for this, and car lots do too. It works great, but you have to do it right after the snow falls before it hardens.

You could use a car cover and put it on before it snows.

I’ve always used brushes, just being careful with the plastic scraper part. If you’re in a heavy snow area, look into a Snow Joe. It’s a foam board on a stick and works really well.

Thanks for the tip! I just ordered a Snow Joe foam snow remover with an ice scraper from Amazon. It won’t arrive before tomorrow’s snow, but I’ll have it for the rest of winter.

Snow Joes are great! My mom got us a Snow Joe shovel a few years ago, and it’s amazing for lighter snowfalls. If the foam board is anything like the shovel, you’ll love it.

Honestly, I wouldn’t stress too much. I’ve always just brushed the snow off without issues. Back in the day, when the snow was too thick, I’d just use my jacket sleeve to sweep it off!

Haha, my kid has a Porsche, and even with those, you stop worrying about scratches if you drive them regularly. Maintenance costs are the real killer though!

I sawed the handle off a soft-bristle broom 25 years ago, and it’s worked great ever since.

I’ve been using a foam snow brush for six years. It’s amazing—clears snow without scratching and works great on ice and slush. Plus, the telescoping handle makes it super convenient.

Definitely get a foam snow broom. It’s the best tool for this.

I solved this problem by moving to Florida.

Eww, lol.

I’ve always wondered if the grit on the car does more damage than the brush itself when you’re pushing snow around.

Chunks just blow off eventually.

What kind of brushes are scratching your paint? I’ve been using snow brushes for over 12 years and never had a problem.

I’m using the standard brush/ice scraper combo you can find at AutoZone or the supermarket. I only use the brush for snow and the scraper for windows.

@Heath
Same here! The only scratch on my car came from my husband putting on the cargo box. He promised to fix it, though!

Don’t worry, it won’t damage anything if you’re just using the brush part.

Try using a brush meant for washing cars, especially one with a pole attachment.
