Thinking about switching from an Elantra. Does this have more usable cargo space? I can check the specs, but I’m looking for real-life experience since the shape seems a bit awkward.
Are you looking at the Corolla Cross or just a regular Corolla? From what I’ve seen, the Cross definitely makes it easier to store things compared to an Elantra. I’ve found the cargo space more than enough for daily use, and you can fold the rear seats down if needed.
I switched from a 2011 Elantra to a 2024 Corolla Cross. The Elantra has more rear seat legroom and a larger trunk floor area—when I measured, it was about 25-30% bigger. But for bulky or tall items, the Corolla Cross is much better. If you’re mostly carrying things that don’t stack well, like groceries or clothes, the Elantra’s trunk might feel more usable.
Cargo space feels slightly smaller to me. My daughter has an Elantra, and I have a Corolla Cross. I’d stick with the Elantra. Toyota doesn’t include a spare tire or floor mats, and the screen has glitches. The Elantra has all of that plus lifetime oil changes.

I have an older Elantra and want to trade it in. I’m considering a Forester, RAV4, or Corolla Cross.
The Elantra has 14.2 cubic feet of cargo space, while the Corolla Cross has 26.5 cubic feet—nearly double. Also, think about resale value. The Elantra will be worth much less in 10 years, while the Corolla Cross will hold its value better.
We have an XSE and have owned four Priuses over the years (still have a 2006 and 2014). I can’t speak for the Elantra, but I find the cargo space in the Corolla Cross a bit disappointing compared to our Priuses. We can pack more into the Prius when going on trips, partly because of the lower trunk storage. The XSE doesn’t have a spare tire, and a lot of space is taken up by an unused foam insert under the floor.
