My boyfriend accidentally scraped the right side of my 2021 Subaru Forester, and his insurance has a $500 deductible. I don’t know much about cars, so I was wondering if anyone has an idea of how much the repair might cost. There’s also a small crack in the right headlight lens. Ignore the dirt—it’s a mountain life thing!
Yeah, definitely more than $500. Probably way more.
You’re looking at a full bumper repaint, probably around $1000. And that’s before the headlight replacement.
Honestly, just leave it lol. Imagine dropping $2k on a bumper just for it to get scratched again right after. It’s a car, not a showpiece. If it was a huge dent, sure, but a couple of scratches? Not worth stressing over. Just swap the headlight and move on.
Might be worth checking scrap yards for a rear-ended Forester. If you’re lucky, you’ll find the headlight and bumper in your color. Could save you some cash, but even then, you’re probably looking at $700-$1500 total.
$2000+ easy. Parts have been pricey since 2020.
Had similar damage on my 2022. Insurance covered it, but the total was just over $1600. Body shop wouldn’t repair the plastic, had to replace the whole bumper. Also, if your car has safety sensors, you might need a dealership recalibration, which adds to the cost.
Just take it to a body shop and get an actual quote. Best way to know for sure.
Not worth spending that much. A quick DIY fix should make it look decent enough.
Had my bumper and headlight replaced on my 2017 for $2500. Went to a solid shop though. Wouldn’t trust places like Caliber Collision even if they charged half—they do trash work.
Definitely more than $500. But if this was someone else’s fault, their insurance should cover it. His deductible doesn’t matter for your repair, but his rates will probably go up.
