I love my Corolla hatchback, but this cold weather beep is driving me nuts!

Why is it so loud? Every time it goes off, it scares the life out of me because it’s way louder than my music or podcast. Someone has to have figured out how to disable this by now… where I live, it’s active for at least four months of the year. Other cars just flash a warning on the dash, which is fine, but why does it need to do an ear-piercing beep every time it hits 4 degrees!? I live in Canada – I know it’s cold out!

Please, if anyone has found a way to turn this off, I’d be forever grateful.

This would drive me crazy too. I’m dreading the day I have to buy a newer car with all these annoying alerts.

Since I’m here first, let me try to help. An OBD2 scanner might let you change the settings on this.

@Van
Tried it with Carista already. Sadly, no luck – there’s no option for it.

Extreme option – you could try disconnecting the outside temperature sensor… but that might lead to other issues.

@Van
:joy::joy::joy: Why didn’t I think of that?

Guess I’m just a bit more desperate, haha!

It probably needs something like Toyota’s Techstream to alter, if it’s even possible.

@Van
Wait, really? A cold weather beep?? :rofl:

Every time I rent a car, it’s like, ‘What are all these random beeps for!?’ It’s so annoying.

I think the dealer has the software to mute that alert. If you’re polite when you go in for service, they might do it for you.

I know what you mean – it freaks me out every time!

Once, I started driving on a warm day, but then the temperature dropped mid-commute, and it startled me on the highway. Like, come on Toyota, I live in Canada! I know the roads could be icy.

Interesting, I wonder if it’s just a Canadian thing? I’m in the U.S. with a 2021 RAV4 Hybrid, and mine only flashes a warning on the screen. It just shows a snowflake icon for a few seconds and then leaves it up there by the temperature gauge.

@Nidra
Wish mine only did that!

@Nidra
Same here.

@Nidra
Guess I’ll never see this warning in my RAV4 unless I drive out of Arizona or hit the Grand Canyon in mid-winter!

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what’s a cold weather beep?

Every time the temp hits 4 degrees, the car blares this loud beep to warn you the roads might be icy, even if it’s already 4 degrees. One of the finest design decisions, truly.

@Sable
I love when it does this in late January or February. I get off work at midnight, it’s -35 outside, and the car feels the need to remind me it’s cold. Truly cutting-edge tech. :joy:

It’s probably a ‘feature’ that covers Toyota’s liability in case of ice. I doubt they’d make it easy to turn off.

It’s not just a Toyota thing. I first saw this in the 2019 Crosstrek.
