ICS malfunction on 2018 Camry XSE, anyone else had this?

A couple of days ago, I started getting an ICS malfunction warning on my 2018 Camry XSE. It says I should visit a dealer. Both ICS and parking assist have stopped working. The car used to beep when I got close to my garage door, but now it doesn’t. Everything else seems fine.

I already made a dealer appointment, but since my warranty ended at 60,000 km and I’m now at 70,000 km, I’ll have to pay full price for the diagnostic and any repairs.

Has anyone else had this happen? If it turns out to be a single sensor issue, I found a replacement from Toyota’s parts site for about $200. Has anyone done the installation before? Would love to hear any advice. Thanks!

Try cleaning the Toyota emblem on the front bumper. The radar sits behind it and could be blocked. Let me know if it helps.

EDIT: Also, make sure nothing is blocking the camera on the windshield. If it’s dirty, clean it.

Thanks for the tip. But my issue seems to be with the ICS sensors on the bumper. I think the radar behind the emblem is for adaptive cruise control, and that’s still working fine.

I cleaned everything—windshield, emblem, and sensors—but the warning is still there.

Check your manual on page 325. Maybe your ICS is turned off. Also, check page 330—it explains how to turn it back on.

EDIT: Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and reconnecting it. It might reset the system. If you do, check page 333—it says you need to drive for at least 5 seconds at 22 mph or more after reconnecting to initialize the system.

I’ll try disconnecting the battery today. My settings are fine, but maybe a reset will help. Thanks for the suggestion.

No luck. I disconnected the battery and reconnected it, but the ICS warning is still there. Looks like it might actually be a bad sensor.

@Chan
Yeah, at this point, it might be worth having the dealer scan it. Still, I find it odd that the sensors just failed like that. Could be a loose cable or maybe even a faulty control module. Let us know what they find.

@CarEnthusiast
I have an appointment on Tuesday. I’ll update once I know more.

Hey, did you ever fix this? I’m dealing with the same thing and Toyota can’t seem to figure it out.

@Cassian
Same issue here. Did you find a solution?

I had something similar, and it turned out to be a loose wiring harness behind the bumper. Might be worth checking before replacing sensors.

Any update on this? My ICS has been acting up for almost a year now. It turns on and off randomly.

I never got it fixed. I’ve just been driving around with ICS and parking assist turned off. If I ever have extra cash, I might look into it again.

@Chan
Did you ever find out what the actual issue was? Was it just a sensor?
