Hey everyone, I just went past my 3 free oil and filter services that came with the extended warranty. I was shocked by the price. Is it common to pay $219 before tax for an oil change and inspection? Mazda only charged me around $100 and were way easier to deal with.
You probably had the service #3 done. That’s the big inspection that happens every 32000kms. If you just wanted an oil change with the regular oil change inspection, it would have been about $105+tax.
It really depends if you want to follow Toyota’s recommended maintenance plan (rotating services: s1, s2, s1, s3, etc.).

105? Wow, I thought the $69.95 my local dealer charges was bad.

That’s in Canadian dollars, so $105 is actually only around $74, which is the same as what my dealer charges in CT. Not bad at all!

Between having to dispose of the old oil, spending 30 mins to an hour, possibly getting oil on your driveway, and the oil and filter costing around $45 for something like Royal Purple or Mobil 1, I’ve learned it’s actually cheaper to just go to the dealer. It’s $75 at my Honda dealership.
@Sparrow
30 mins to an hour? Shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes max.

Wow, 10 minutes? So you do yours in like 5 minutes? You’re basically a pro lube tech, haha.

Let’s just say I’ve had a lot of practice with my 1ZZ engine.
It looks like most of the cost came from the “inspection”, not the oil change itself. I just paid $67 USD for an oil change last week at the dealer. That was the cheapest I’ve ever paid there, usually it’s around $80-90. The parts on mine were $33 USD, which is about $47 CAD, pretty close to your parts total.
That’s about what Toyota dealerships charge for oil changes plus all the extra stuff here in the lower mainland.
It’s mainly the inspection. I took my Lexus in for maintenance. They wanted me to do service #3, which is a “visual inspection” and costs $300 for 3 hours of service. I said no thanks.
I only need to switch my tires and change the oil. If I added the service #3, I’d have to leave my car for 6 hours. It’s insane.
@Arlo
It’s more than just switching tires and changing oil, but go on.

You’re not getting my point. I was told to do service #3 even though I only wanted an oil change and tire change.
So the service I actually ordered was just switching tires and changing oil. So what else is there? Go on.
I’m lucky my oil change only costs $40 in NYC.
I only take my Camry to the dealer for big servicing. For basic things, my local mechanic can do it just fine and charges $70 an hour instead of $120.
This is a pretty normal price for the maintenance service, which includes the oil change.
Yeah, I took my Lexus to Toyota for an oil change recently. They automatically entered it as Service #2, I think. I told them I only wanted the oil change, so the price was cut almost in half and that’s all they did. I rotate my tires twice a year when I switch to winter tires and check the brakes myself. I only let them do the oil change because it’s under warranty. The Toyota dealer is 5 mins from my house, the Lexus dealer is 45 mins away.
Gotta blame Justin Trudeau for this one.
Just cus. Lol.
