Is $25k for this 2014 Tundra with 170k miles too much? Test drove it… liked it, but not sure

So I found a 2014 Toyota Tundra, 1794 edition CrewMax, with a 5.7 V8 4x4. It’s got 170k miles and the guy wants $25,000 cash. I took it for a test drive, and I liked how it drove. What do you guys think… is it worth it?

If it’s in great condition, I wouldn’t pay more than $15k.

But would $15k be a fair offer for it then?

Yeah, around $15k is the most I’d offer, even if it’s really well taken care of.

@Sal
Haha, this cracked me up. Yeah, man, $25k is way off. Even if these trucks can last 500k+ miles, it doesn’t mean you should pay a premium. Remember, it’s still a 12-year-old truck with high miles and rough gas mileage.

$25k… for a 2014… with 170k miles…

But hey, it’s the ‘Murica edition :laughing:

No way. That’s way too much money.

You’d be better off getting a newer one and making payments. Less stress and fewer worries about breakdowns.

If you’re thinking of paying $25k, it better come with all the service records. At that mileage, I’d want proof of regular maintenance, like oil changes, differential fluid, transfer case, and especially transmission service records.

When you check it out, sit in neutral with the brake on and shift to 4Hi and 4Lo, see if it moves in and out smoothly. Look underneath for rust, and inspect the ball joints, brakes, and tires like any other used car. Oh, and check for a cam tower leak under the wheel wells, it’s a known issue with the 5.7.

If everything checks out, then $25k might be okay where I live. But if any of that stuff is missing, I’d start asking for a lower price. I keep all my vehicle records in a Google Sheet… just makes it easier to keep track of everything.

This guy probably lists everything at MSRP or higher. I wouldn’t do it.

Definitely get a mechanic to look it over and scan for any hidden issues.

170k miles is still 170k miles, even if it’s a Toyota. You don’t know how the truck was driven for the last decade, and unless there are maintenance records, you’re just guessing based on how it looks right now. I wouldn’t pay more than $15k.

@brunomars
He said he’d do $10k cash and $1k a month payments… still not good?

Are you actually thinking about doing this?

He dropped to $23k, and the mileage is 165k now.

Don’t do it. That’s way too much for an old truck with that many miles. That’s 17k miles per year!
