Thinking about getting the blind spot detection on the 2025 Forester, but it adds about $1200 and forces an upgrade to the Premium trim. Does it work well? Worth the extra cost?
Blind spot detection is a must for me. Any car I get in the future needs to have it.
It works really well on my 2020.

It’s nice to have, but I still turn my head and check every time, so I wouldn’t say it’s a dealbreaker for me.

I just want to be sure it actually works well. I feel like I might start relying on it too much, and if it messes up, that could be a problem.
@Finian
I have a 2019 Forester with blind spot detection, and it’s 100% worth it. It even picks up cars approaching quickly that aren’t quite in the blind spot yet but will be soon. Definitely a useful safety feature.
@DukeJames4
Same here. Got it on my 2019 Touring, and it works great.
@DukeJames4
2025 Forester owner here… the early detection is really nice. Love having it.
@Finian
I’ve heard this argument before and honestly don’t think it holds up.
It’s like saying seatbelts make people drive worse because they feel safer. No one drives more recklessly just because they have a seatbelt.
Blind spot detection has been around for a while now, and it’s been proven to be useful. It’s not meant to replace checking your mirrors, just to help out.

Not sure about the 2025, but I just got a 2021 and I love having blind spot detection.
I really think blind spot detection should just be standard on all cars. I hope the 2025 Forester has the version that lets other drivers see when they’re in your blind spot. That’s my one issue with my 2023 Wilderness… I wish it alerted other drivers too.
@Mason
How does that work? Are you saying the Forester warns the other car somehow?
I bought my 2025 Forester about a month ago and test-drove one with blind spot detection and one without. Easy decision for me—I got the one with it. Every car I buy from now on needs to have it.
I have it on my 2025 Sport, and it’s really useful. Only downside is the extra cost.
Had it on my 2018 Forester, but not on my 2024. I miss it every time I drive on the highway.

Why didn’t you get it on the 2024?
It really depends on what you value. I got a 2025 Touring, and I wouldn’t want to go without any of the features at that trim level.
Blind spot detection works well, but I still use it as a backup, not my main way of checking.
It’s worth it. I have it on my 2025 and wouldn’t go without it.
Yes, get it. I added it to my 2022 for $1200, and I have no regrets.
Love it on my 2020. It’s just part of my routine—light comes on, I check over my shoulder, then change lanes.
Super useful if your neck isn’t as flexible as it used to be.
