Is the Extended Warranty Deal on My New Sienna AWD LE Worth It?

Hey forum,

So, I bought a brand new 2025 Toyota Sienna AWD LE a few days ago at MSRP. The dealership offered me an extended warranty, which started at over $4,000, but after mentioning another dealership’s cheaper deal, they dropped it to $2,891. The warranty is the Toyota Platinum VSA for 8 years/100,000 miles, priced at $2,235, and Toyota Care Prepaid Maintenance for 4 years/55,000 miles at $656.

Now I’m not sure if this was a good deal. I can cancel the warranty within 30 days according to the agreement, and there’s a cancellation number provided. I want to know if anyone here has been through this before and didn’t need to contact the dealership to cancel, just Toyota Finance?

They included the warranty in my financing, so I want to be sure about the process. Also, I’m confused about the maintenance plan; the agreement says the service interval is N/A. When I asked, they noted that I bring my car in every 5,000 miles for maintenance. But I was later told that Toyota Care only covers what’s in the manual, which is every 10,000 miles for oil changes. Is this true?

Any advice or experiences would be really helpful.

I think Jerry would prefer not to be mentioned in negotiations with other dealers. I don’t think they are supposed to compete like that. There is a web portal now for VSA cancellation. https://tmisvpp.com/. Just click on the Toyota tile and follow the instructions.

I wouldn’t mess around with other dealers. Just go straight to Jerry for a quote. One other note is that if you financed the warranty, the refund will go to your lien holder. You will have to pay for the new warranty out of pocket, but the car will be paid off faster.

@Pippin
Thanks! I sent him an email for quotes. I’m just not sure how the cancellation process works since I’ve already signed everything and they required us to finance through TFS for 4 months.

Cancel your existing warranty at the link above before you pay Jerry for the new one. You have 30 days to cancel. Shouldn’t be a problem other than a possible $50 fee depending on which state you’re in.

@Pippin
I’m in WA state. Do I need to pay that $50? I’ll wait for Jerry’s response. Do I just need to fill out the form? Can cancellation be done without involving the dealership where I bought the car? Is it all an electronic transaction? I’m also considering not getting any warranty but still unsure about it.

@Cody
I get it. Warranty is debatable. I’d say get Jerry’s prices before you decide. Either way, you just fill out the form. It doesn’t involve the dealer at all. Looks like you will still pay the $50 in WA.

Skip the extended warranty, put the cash in savings. Even before buying Toyotas, I think I had 2k of repairs total before 100k miles, so I doubt it’ll pay off with a Toyota.

That’s what I was thinking, but I had doubts because the Sienna has more moving parts, like the two power side doors. My 2014 Camry with 105k miles and 2019 RAV4 with 55k miles have been really reliable, and we’ve only done basic maintenance.

Then I read some articles saying Toyota’s reliability has gone down post-pandemic, so I’m unsure now.

I kept saying no to the extended warranties until it was so well priced I had to say yes.

So, for you, this is a good price? Do you know if the prepaid maintenance at the Toyota dealership will be on a 5k interval or 10k? The document I signed says service interval is N/A, but I told them I do 5k maintenance.

If the prepaid maintenance is on a 10k interval, I’m not sure if it’s worth the amount I paid.

@Cody
The deal I got was $1800 for 10 years/120k miles bumper-to-bumper (absolutely everything), lifetime powertrain, and 3 years of free scheduled maintenance. They said oil changes every 10k miles, which was strange, but if they’re gonna warranty it, I don’t mind. I think I still have scheduled maintenance at 5k because that’s what my odometer and phone app say. I’m just gonna bring it in when they say and keep track of what they do. It’s included.

@Spence
Which company did you get this deal with? Not Toyota, right? Something else?

It’s directly through the dealership I got the car from. They even pick up your car for maintenance. Just call and they come pick it up. I’ll pay for the convenience.

Well, I took his name and price and got the Assurant extended warranty at $1640 plus tax for 10 years/125,000 kms, $0 deductible. Not sure if the finance manager can sell one of those to out-of-state buyers though. This one was in Rochester, NY.

I would probably just return/cancel the warranty then wait until 3 years or 36k miles, then buy one. At least buying it later on if you ever want a refund, it starts then, not from the beginning. The car already comes with a base 3-year/36k miles, why add another on top?

@Laine
This makes more sense. I thought about it because it’s Toyota, but the dealership where I bought my Sienna was really nice and straightforward with the deal. I still can’t deny that they made money selling the warranty. Anyways, I’m planning on doing what you suggested.

My dealer offered it at $1995. I still said no.

Bought my 2024 Woodland and went straight to Jerry. I paid $2100 for a 10-year/125k miles platinum warranty. It was priced so cheap I couldn’t say no.
