Is there a way to get the "walk away lock" feature on my new Sienna?

I recently bought a Sienna Platinum and was surprised to find out it doesn’t have the “walk away lock” feature that my old Honda did. I thought this was standard these days. I’m wondering if there’s a specific reason for this, like a patent, and if there’s a way to mimic this feature. We’re used to just walking away with the key in our pocket and having the car lock itself. Now we have to manually lock it, which feels like a step back. Any suggestions on how to get close to that convenience or do we just need to adapt to the new way of doing things? Thank you.

Just touch the lock indent on the exterior door handle.

Thank you so much! We just tried it and found the lock indent. This is great! Not as convenient as the walk-away feature but it means we don’t have to dig for the key in our bag. Really appreciate it!

@Darior
You don’t have to wait for the sliding door to close either. Just tap it and it will lock when the door finishes closing.

Can you tell me more about this?

There’s a little indent on the exterior door handle. Just like how you touch the handle to unlock the door when you have the key, you can press that indent with your finger when you get out to lock the car.

The door handle has a spot you just tap to lock. It’s not a button, just a touch-sensitive area.

@Beckett
Most cars with a proximity key have a touch area on the outside. Some have a rubber button, which is not as convenient, but it’s still better than pulling out the key fob.

@Beckett
This is amazing! Thank you. We just found it and it works well enough.

Thanks for this info! I probably would have missed it in the manual. I have a new 2024 XLE.

Check the manual. There’s a setting to enable this feature, but it has to be done at the dealer.

Thanks for the heads-up. I’m glad we found a workaround with the handle. It makes locking so much easier.

You can double press the rear hatch close button to lock the doors after closing the hatch.

Just don’t do it too quickly.

We have the walk-away feature on our Mazda and it annoys me when I get gas. I prefer the touch feature.

Old school here, but I just open the door and press the lock button inside since my hand is right there. The key can stay in my bag, which is nice in the rain or snow.

Just to clarify, you can unlock the doors by placing your hand through the front door handles without touching it. By the way, our 2020 model lets us set different locking modes on the digital display.

I have a similar question. I noticed my side mirrors on my 2024 Platinum only fold in when I press the lock key on my fob. Can that be changed?
