I bought this brand new, picked up few months ago. Everything has been good, but today i noticed something with my paint, at the bottom of all the doors. Looks like bubbly type paint? Is this factory and ive never noticed? Or did i mess up somehow. Let me know im super curious.
That’s actually intentional. Toyota (and other truck brands) use a tougher paint coating in those lower areas to help prevent rock chips.

Ohh, wow… can’t believe I just noticed that. Thanks a lot!
@Drue
Yep, I can confirm… my black Tundra has the same thing. Not a single rock chip on that part, but the regular paint above? Covered in chips from my love of dirt and mud lol.
It’s not a defect, it’s a protective layer against chips. My 2017 has it too. Keep driving, no need to return it!

Same with my ‘13!
That’s a special coating to help prevent rust and corrosion. Nothing to stress about! Also, solid color choice.
Another day, another “brand new truck has messed up paint” post.

Honestly, I wouldn’t have known about this if people like you didn’t ask. Props for taking the heat and getting answers!

I was wondering the same thing, but thanks to this thread, now I know!
My 2018 Tundra has the same thing. Totally normal.
Yep, that’s intentional.
Looks like some orange peel.
My ‘04 Tacoma has the same thing.
