Just got hit in a hit and run do you think this is totaled?

Just got into a hit and run with some girl going the wrong way on the highway. Luckily, I got her plates, so I’m hoping she has insurance. What do you guys think, is this a total loss?

Yeah, probably. Looks like frame damage. I’d start looking into legal options because she hit you and ran. A lawyer could help you get what you’re owed.

Mine was worse, and they still fixed it. If the car is new enough, insurance might repair it.

@Hal
Yeah, but even if they fix it, the structure is never the same. If you can, push for a total loss and get another car. This one might never drive like it did before.

That’s fair, but mine has been running perfectly after being fixed. If OP plans to keep it long-term and not resell, it might not be a big deal.

@Hal
Just the hassle with insurance and the car’s diminished value makes me avoid keeping a car after major repairs.

@Hal
Honestly, I’d rather just take the check and get a new one.

@Hal
It depends on the extent of the frame damage. I had a Neon back in the day that got completely smashed in the rear, and they still repaired it. It ran perfectly afterward.

Time to get a Lexus, my dude. Congrats?

That’s not how insurance works. You’re gonna get the market value of your car, not enough for a Lexus.

Maybe a 2000 Lexus if you’re lucky.

Even a small dent can cost over a grand to fix. This might be totaled for sure.

Get a lawyer. A lot of them work on contingency, meaning you don’t pay unless they win your case. Also, go see a doctor. Injuries from crashes sometimes show up weeks or even months later. And make sure the police are involved.

@laura
Yeah, I filed a police report, and they got the plates. They hit her with seven tickets right away. I already started the insurance claim, but I don’t know if I should get a lawyer involved. I’ve never dealt with this before.

@Kipp
It’s free to consult a lawyer, so it wouldn’t hurt to talk to one. They’ll tell you if it’s worth it or not.

It might be close. Depends on the total loss threshold in your state and the value of your car. The front structure looks damaged, which could mean trouble.

If the car is worth more than the damage estimate, it won’t be totaled. You might even be able to buy it back cheap if insurance does total it.

My 2020 Camry SE got rear-ended at 70 mph. The frame was messed up, and repairs were over $17K. They still fixed it, and it’s running fine at 50K miles.

Lost my ‘22 Camry to an accident and upgraded to a ‘25 with the insurance money. Loving the new one.
