Just got new tint… total game changer

Went with 75% on the windshield, 15% on the front windows, and 30% over the stock privacy glass for the rest. All ceramic. Huge difference in keeping the heat down, especially with a black-on-black setup.

Tint makes a huge difference with heat. Out here in SoCal where the sun’s out almost year-round, it’s basically a must.

I live in SoCal too and never needed tint. I’d rather have clear visibility, especially at night. If your AC doesn’t work, fix that instead of cutting visibility.

@Quin
I used to work for a dermatologist who was serious about sun protection. He actually got a medical exemption to tint his front windows darker than the law allows. He presented scientific studies to the DMV, and they let it slide. He even carried a signed doc in case he got pulled over.

@Jean
Factory windshields already block most UV—like 95% or more. If that story’s even real, I wouldn’t trust a doctor who doesn’t know that. Tinting your windshield is like wearing sunglasses at night. Doesn’t make sense.

@Quin
You’re right that factory glass blocks most UV, but ceramic tint takes it even further—close to 100%. It’s not just UV, either. It helps a ton with glare and heat. Side windows block less too, like 75%, so tint helps there even more.

Totally agree—it just feels cozier inside after tint. Did you go full windshield?

Yeah, did the whole thing. Thought about adding a dark strip across the top but didn’t think it would look right.

@Zariah
I did the sun strip and actually like how it looks!

I went 35% on the windshield and 15% on everything else, with 5% over the factory ceramic in back. Nighttime rear visibility with the dash cam kinda sucks, but it’s great during the day. Same black 2020 TRD Off-Road Premium—looks way better and now I don’t need the cargo cover with the dogs back there.

How do you back up at night or move around a campsite when it’s dark?

Thinking about tinting my windshield too, but living in Denver I feel like I’d just end up replacing it every year from rock chips.

Did ceramic tint on mine too. Gave a coworker a ride, and he left drinks in the truck for hours—they were barely warm. It really works.

Top two mods I’ve done to my 4Runner:

  1. Tint
  2. Real off-road tires (BFG KO3s)

Who did the tint for you?

Local guy someone recommended. No site, just a phone number. He came to my office and did it while I worked. Turned out great.

:+1:t4: Nice. Looks solid. Hoping to get mine done before summer hits.

Doesn’t look fresh to me
