Lost my temper… now my wallet is gonna hurt

Well, I learned something today. Slamming a car door hard enough can actually set off the side curtain airbags. Tomorrow I get to find out just how much this mistake is going to cost me.

I have a 2020 Forester Premium with around 70k miles, and now I’m kicking myself for letting my frustration get the best of me. Hoping this isn’t as bad as I think… wish me luck.

Great… now I have a new thing to worry about.

Same thing happened to me. Filed an insurance claim, paid the deductible, and Subaru covered it.

Wait, how did Subaru end up covering it?

I sent them the bill from the shop showing I paid the deductible. At first, both my insurance and Subaru tried to brush it off, but once they saw the repair notes confirming there was no actual body damage, they changed their tune. I also filed a complaint with the NHTSA, which seemed to help push Subaru to take responsibility.

What’s SOA?

It was a pretty good TV show a while back too… lol.

Subaru of America.

I was jamming out, drumming on my steering wheel, and suddenly the airbag light came on. That was the end of that habit.

Welp… guess I’m done doing this in traffic. I’d rather buy cymbals than a new airbag.

@ToyotaGuru
Drumming on actual cymbals while driving is probably a bad idea too.

Bet someone sells a steering wheel drum kit on Amazon.

Probably, but in my state (Oregon), installing something like that would be illegal.

@Kipp
I was joking, lol. Remember that whole drama with the steering wheel tray a few years back?

Ohhh yeah, I forgot about that! That was hilarious.

@ToyotaGuru
Pretty sure I’ve hit the wheel harder before, but this time it was enough to wake me up real quick. Gonna be Rick Allen from now on—one hand on the wheel, no more drumming lol.

Dude, come on! facepalms

@ToyotaGuru
I air drum on my wheel all the time haha. Might need to rethink that now.

@ToyotaGuru
A tambourine might be safer… or a triangle lol.

Your car just staged an intervention.

Get it together, buddy.
