So I held down the brake pedal for about 10 minutes, and now my car won’t start. The brake lights aren’t working either. What could be wrong here? Any tips?
Did you mess with the brake light circuit when you were fiddling with it? Are your brake lights still working?

Yeah, I think the fuse is blown. Now I need to find a 7.5A fuse, but I only have 5 and 10 amp ones. Not sure if I have 7.5.
@Zed
Check the fuse box in the engine bay, there should be spare fuses in the lid.

Wow, that’s really cool. They’ve got a spare of each fuse on the cover of the fuse box… 7.5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 amps. Super handy!

Put in the new STOP fuse and the car started up! Still have an eyesight off warning, though, and hill assist is still off. Need to figure out which fuse that is.
@Zed
Those error codes might stick around for a day or two before they clear.

I’ll give it a day and see how it goes when I drive it to work tomorrow… it’s not a long drive.

Brake lights are out. I didn’t check that fuse. I’ll look now and see if it’s blown.
Could it be a weak battery?

Battery’s been fine before this. I tried jumping it with another car and still no luck.
Sounds like your car’s in limp mode if all those systems are shutting down. It’s meant to protect the engine. Probably have a check engine light on too. Head to AutoZone and get it scanned.

You can usually borrow a code reader from them… the lights on the dash won’t tell you much. The code will guide you where to look.
@Lilnim
Oh, I see you already fixed it!

Yep, found a blown STOP fuse. Replaced it and it’s working now.
You should disconnect any extras you’ve added to the electrical system. If you’re blowing fuses left and right, something’s definitely off.

Is your car manual?
Nope, it’s automatic… the [P] indicator shows that.
Oh, gotcha. I thought hill start assist was only on manual transmissions.

The manual just has a brief description of the lights but says if you have problems, just take it to a mechanic. No troubleshooting tips.

I looked through the manual, and all it says is contact Subaru maintenance if you have these issues. No real help on fixing anything yourself.

Checked again… just a description of the warning lights and says to contact a mechanic. No advice on how to get the car going again.
