New shoes! First time with KO3s... They are so smooth and quiet!

I went with 265/75R16 KO3s on my 23 SR5. Stock suspension. I agree, they are way quieter than expected and I do a ton of highway driving. I did lose about 1 to 1.5mpg (still working that out). No noticeable performance impacts. Acceleration, braking, handling… All seem like it did before

@Brandy
10 ply tires? That’s where you lost the 1.5mpg

Yep. No doubt. I was prepared for a slight drop in mpgs. My decision to go with KO3s was clearly not a practicality-based decision. Sure, I regularly tow, but with the Tacoma’s capacity, you don’t need KO3s. Living in the Northeast, a better bad weather tire is super helpful, but other cheaper options are out there. I just think the slightly oversized KO3s look badass, and the fact that they are better in those areas helps my weak justification. I am a poser for sure.

Do you feel any power loss or see any impact in mpg between the two? I’m running 265/70/17 right now and want to come up to 33, I’d like to run the skinnies but just don’t know if they’d look weird with a high clearance bumper?

@Wendell
I’d bet $$ they see a marked drop in MPG. We love heavy tires and low MPGs in here.

@Wendell
I get about 15-17 mpg with 33s and manual trans

Same. Honestly, if I could go back, I might just do 265’s

I have C load 265/70 KO2s and didn’t see much drop, maybe 0.5. Averaging like 16-17 in winter and 20-22 in summer. I know the AT4Ws come in a 265/70 SL load that weigh the same. The Toyo ATIIIs come in at like 39lbs or something in SL, which could probably get you to the actual EPA rating. I’m also a granny driver camping out in the right lane at 70 though, so keep that in mind lol

I get 15/16mpgs in my stock off-road wtf

@Wendell
I’m getting about 18.2mpg right now. During the winter it drops to 17.5 for some reason.

Cold air is denser, so the engine works harder to push through the air. Not sure if your gas stations switch to a winter gas blend where you are, but winter gas can make a slight difference in mpg as well.

I also saw a drop in mpg during the winter, something with the fuel mix. The 18.2 is with the 285’s or was that about average with both?

@Wendell
The 18.2 was with the skinny tires. I haven’t driven long enough with the 285s yet but I’ll report back after a week or so.

Sounds good man! I looked through your profile but couldn’t find one. Would you happen to have a front-on photo with the 255s?

I know you are seeing a mileage drop. I have an OR, and went to 265/75-16 over stock. And it was like I dropped a load in the bed. But, it looks good. So, I don’t care.

Stock suspension?

@Cass
Yes. But on a Westcott kit.

Everyone else is all over the tires. I’m like how the F—K is the underside of your truck so damn clean?!?! I go across a pasture once, hog/coyote hunting at night, down to the range to plant freedom seeds, cross the creek to check cows or fish the upper pond, drag the kayaks to the lake. Rip the firebreak roads. Hit a tank trail or two. Run it up to an OP. I wish it looked like that but just daily regular driving/activities would destroy it in 5 minutes of leaving the garage. You live in the city? I’m impressed, truly.

@Frey
That sounds like fun! I’m definitely not enjoying it as much as you are. I do like detailing as a hobby.
