I found RTV (silicone sealant) on the transmission of my brand new 2024 Tundra Limited. Is this normal? I haven’t seen much info on it and it’s got me wondering if this is a common thing or not. Thoughts?
I just checked under my new 2024 Limited, and yep, mine looks the same.

For real? Can you send me a pic? I tried searching for this online but didn’t find much.

@Amanda
Thanks for that! Well, it’s a relief knowing I’m not alone, but still weird Toyota would use RTV instead of a gasket. I haven’t found any official info on this, so maybe I’ll head to the dealership and check under some new Tundras.
@Frankie
Toyota’s been using RTV (red for drive train, grey for engine, black for reseals) for a while now. It works well. I’ve been a Lexus tech for 11 years and never saw an issue because of that.
Totally normal. Toyota uses a form-in-place gasket (RTV) for transfer cases.
Yeah, this is standard. Check the dealership lot, you’ll see the same. Also, look where the engine meets the transmission (rear main seal area). There’s a weep hole that can leak a bit, either oil or assembly lube.
RTV has been used on Toyotas for the past two decades. They use it on timing covers, cam towers, and even transmissions. Those spots are known to leak sometimes, but RTV on transfer cases or transmissions is usually solid.
My new 2024 Limited has the same thing.
My 2006 Tundra had RTV where the transmission meets the engine and the rear main seal. It eventually started leaking, and we thought the rear main seal was bad, but it turned out the old RTV just wasn’t holding anymore.
I’ve got a 2024 Limited too, and after the dealership did the recall for possible movement in neutral, my acceleration feels off at low speeds. It’s always been a bit jerky, but now it seems like it’s missing gears.
