I’ve had my 2021 RAV4 for a while now, and I barely ever use the driving modes. Has anyone thought about making a 3D printed phone holder that sits on top of that area near the driving modes? Maybe even with a wireless charger? I’m thinking of it as more of an accessory than a true modification. Maybe something like this already exists?
Nope, never crossed my mind.
My phone just chills in the space in front of that area. I don’t really need it since it’s connected to the radio with Android Auto.
Plus, it would be too low to see the phone properly. If you really want a mount for using your phone, you’d want it up higher.
I got one of those small shelves that fits in that console area, and my phone fits perfectly. I use wireless Android Auto, but I can still plug my phone in if I need to.
I have a Prime XSE, and I bought a stand that goes over the infotainment system. I put a MagSafe puck on it, and it works great! It’s out of the way of the AC and the info displays.

Could you share the link to the one you bought?
I bought a pro clip one. https://www.proclipusa.com/collections/dashboard-mounts-toyota-rav4-2021

What’s your experience been like over time? I’ve used Proclip in my older cars and always liked them, but the RAV4 placement doesn’t seem ideal. It looks like it blocks the AC controls. I’ve also seen pictures where it damaged the connection point. Can you share your experience? I bought one with the car, but I haven’t installed it yet.
@Clay
I like it so far. I haven’t seen any damage, but I can see how it might “deform” the pleather over time. Maybe steam could fix that, though. It only really blocks the recirc button, but I always leave the auto setting on, so it’s not an issue for me.

Do you have it on the windshield or the vent?
@Frey
By the vent.

Seriously? 30 bucks for that little piece of plastic?
@Afton
Just a heads up
Anything that blocks the vent or airflow isn’t great. Putting the phone in front of the airflow can make it overheat.
Why do you even need a phone holder? There are pockets everywhere!
I got this for my '23 SE Hybrid and I love it. I now have a wireless charging pad for when I use wireless CarPlay! https://a.co/d/7kceBEw
It’s not a bad idea to find a phone mount for that area. I don’t want to cover anything up, but I wouldn’t mind something near the USB connection. I always put my phone there to connect to Android Auto.
I recommend a phone clip that plugs into the cigarette lighter. It keeps the phone easy to see and reach without being too noticeable.
Something like this is probably what the person who posted this is looking for. It’s more practical: Amazon.com: Scosche MAG12V MagicMount Universal Magnetic Car Phone Holder, Cigarette Lighter Mount with USB Charger, Easy Magnet Mounting for iPhone, iPad, Smartphones, Tablets, and More
Living near the mountains, I change modes all the time!
I agree. I’ve never changed driving modes. I think it’s just a gimmick for most people like me who drive the RAV4 on highways and never off-road.
What’s the deal with everyone needing phone holders? You shouldn’t need your phone while driving.
