Greetings everyone,
I have a 1996 Camry LE 4-door with a 4-cylinder 2.2 engine. A few days ago, I noticed that when I turn on my stock radio, the antenna located at the rear on the passenger side doesn’t activate.
About a year ago, I replaced the enclosed antenna ribbon/mast, and it was working fine. Even when the ribbon was broken, I could still hear the motor trying to extend or retract the antenna shaft.
Now, however, I don’t hear the motor activating at all.
I checked the radio fuse located on the lower left side of the driver’s dash, and it seems to be fine.
Before I go through the trouble of emptying my trunk, is there a relay that controls the antenna?
I’ve been tinkering with my 1996 Camry LE for a while now, and I remember dealing with a similar issue where the power antenna stopped working. Like you, I checked the fuse first, which was fine, so I started digging deeper. The power antenna motor itself is usually controlled by a relay, which is likely located in the trunk area near the antenna assembly. You might want to check the relay and the connections before replacing the motor. It’s a bit of a hassle to empty the trunk, but it’s worth it to see if the relay is the culprit before going further.
Hey car owners,by systematically inspecting these components and considering the specific symptoms of your antenna issue, you can improve your chances of identifying and resolving the problem.
Examine the Power Antenna Fuse: You may need to search elsewhere for the power antenna fuse, which is located separately from the radio fuse.
Examine the Antenna Relay: This is often the internal panel or fuse box under the hood. Locate and test the antenna relay.
Verify Wiring and Connections: Make sure the antenna motor’s wiring is secure and linked correctly.
Test the Motor: To check if the antenna motor operates, disconnect it and provide 12 volts.
Examine the Antenna Assembly: Look for any blockages on the antenna tower and ribbon.
