Rear ended bad… insurance taking forever

Speed limit was 50, I was at a full stop. Pretty sure the other driver didn’t even hit the brakes. Now just waiting to see if insurance calls it totaled or not. What do you guys think? It’s been 4 days and still no word.

RIP to your 24 Sport… glad you’re okay.

If insurance doesn’t offer enough to replace your car, push back or talk to a lawyer. Their first offer is just a starting point… you can usually get them to bump it up by 20-30 percent.

Don’t accept anything right away… injuries can show up days later. In some places, taking an early payout can stop you from getting medical compensation later.

That looks totaled. The frame has to be messed up.

Frame damage in the back? Modern cars are designed to crumple in a crash. The real issue is the rear quarter panel. Once that’s damaged, repairs get crazy expensive.

Yeah… that car is done.

Damn… what hit you?

Get checked out just in case. Hits like that can mess you up even if you feel fine now.

Got rear-ended in my 21 Sport a couple of years ago. Repairs were over 13k, and I had a rental for a month. It was close to being totaled.

Was that car from Quebec? There’s a white 21 Sport for sale near me with almost the exact same repair bill. 92k km on it, paint peeling off the rear bumper, and they want $34k CAD. Wild.

@Themech
Nope, I’m in New York.

Are you okay though??

Damn… how are you feeling?

You alright? That looks like serious frame damage… I’d be surprised if they don’t total it.

Sorry this happened. Hope you’re okay. If you’re looking for a new ride, check out the Forester.

Did the airbags go off?

Anyone here drive a 2018 Outback? Would you recommend it?

Same thing happened to me.

Mine was totaled. Guy hit me at 40-50 mph, bent the whole frame. Driver’s side rear door wouldn’t open. Your crash looks almost identical to mine.

Insurance lowballed me at first. Their first offer was $26,500. After some arguing and getting a lawyer friend involved, they bumped it to $32,000.

Start printing out listings of similar cars for sale. They’ll try to find the cheapest examples to justify paying you less. Don’t let them.

Subarus don’t have traditional frames. The real test is panel alignment—if the gaps between the panels look uneven, the structure is probably bent. If they look normal, it might just be bodywork.

There’s a crash bar behind the bumper that absorbs hits. If that didn’t get crushed, you might get lucky with just a tailgate and bumper replacement. If they don’t total it, ask for a diminished value payout.
