Remote key works for entry but buttons dont respond

Hi everyone

My partner just got a used Yaris in a really cool color. The only issue is that the buttons on the remote key don’t work. She can still use the keyless entry, and the dealer mentioned that the car does receive the remote signal. But the dealer said they can’t fix it.

The previous owner mentioned that it stopped working after the battery died. That might help us figure it out

I’m thinking of visiting an electronics shop, but I wanted to check if anyone here knows what might be wrong

Thanks for the help

Try replacing the coin battery first. I had a similar issue and just changing the battery fixed it. If your fob is like mine, it just pops open and snaps back together.

Good point But the original poster mentioned both keys have the same problem

I will try this for both keys, maybe they are both dead

Keyless entry is a unique setup and doesn’t need a battery. The buttons use a coin battery, so you should change that. If that doesn’t work, the remote might need to be re-paired with the car.

Thanks for the info The problem is we already have two keys and neither of them work does that mean they need to be re-paired

@Cove
Yes Let me check this out for you Some fobs can pair on your own but for others you might need to go to the dealer

After a minute, the security light will stop flashing

TO EXIT PROGRAMMING: REMOVE THE IGNITION KEY AND PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AT LEAST ONCE WITHIN 10 SECONDS OR WAIT 10 SECONDS

You should also get a second key and get both of them programmed at the same time
