The van already sits pretty low, do you really need running boards?
Maybe not, but I’ve got a 2-year-old and a 7-week-old, so I’m thinking ahead for when they start climbing in by themselves. Plus, I sometimes drive my grandparents, so it would help them too.
@Claire
From what I’ve seen with kids and their grandparents:
Grandparents love higher seats because it’s easier to get in and out of.
As for kids, they’re tough! Once you show them how to get in, they’ll keep at it.
We’ve got a sedan while we wait for our Sienna, and my 3-year-old climbs into her car seat by herself.

Thanks for the tips! Do you think seat covers are worth it? I’m a bit of a clean freak and just thinking about my son climbing in with dirty shoes is giving me anxiety

Definitely! If you want to keep it clean, get seat covers. Also, seat protectors help reduce car seat indentations. And yeah, be ready for crumbs, dirt, and sand—you’ll be vacuuming a lot.

If you want your car clean, seat covers are a must! Get some good ones, they’ll be worth it. And keep some wipes handy—kids love leaving handprints on everything, especially windows and door handles.
