Should I replace the battery on my hybrid Camry 2023?

Hi all!

I just got back from a 3-week trip, and when I tried starting my car, the battery was dead. I jumped it and got the car running almost immediately. However, after a couple of hours of driving, it seems like the lithium battery isn’t charging properly.

Do you think I should replace the battery?

Thanks in advance!

It sounds like you’re talking about the 12-volt battery since you mentioned jumping it. I don’t think the 12-volt battery is lithium. The 12-volt battery doesn’t handle being fully drained well, so maybe it’s just a bad one. Replacing it should be cheaper than replacing the main hybrid battery that powers the car while driving.

Yes! How do I know if I should replace the 12V battery? Does not replacing it affect the hybrid battery?

A mechanic or auto parts store can test it.

Thank you!

Check if it’s under warranty first.

It’s not under warranty unfortunately. Do you think I should replace the smaller battery (the squared one)?

How come it’s not under warranty? It’s a 2023! It should be!

@frank
Actually, it’s a 2022 model, and the country I live in has very limited warranty coverage.

Do you have electronics that use the battery even when you leave the car?

@frank
Just a USB-A cable for the Apple CarPlay app.

Well, then I’m not sure. Maybe the battery is fine after all?

@frank
12V batteries are typically not covered under Toyota’s warranty. Also, brakes, windshield wipers, etc., are considered ‘wearable’ parts. I’ve seen dealers replace them in good faith, though.

The 12V battery is covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles. The battery should have held a charge for 3 weeks if the car is stock, with no aftermarket accessories like remote starters.
