Subaru and FPT teaming up for 2 more years… thoughts?

So I saw that Subaru and FPT just renewed their partnership for another 2 years. Looks like they’re focusing big on software-defined vehicles, self-driving tech, and safety systems. FPT’s sending their experts to Subaru’s plants in Japan, plus they’ll have workshops in Vietnam too. Seems like both are doubling down on making smarter, connected cars. Anyone think this will actually make a difference or just another PR thing?

Interesting… didn’t know FPT was that involved in car tech. I thought they mostly did IT stuff?

Yeah same. But apparently they’ve got like 4,000 engineers focused on auto software. Big numbers tbh.

@brad
Dang, didn’t expect that. Guess they’re trying to get ahead in the EV game.

What’s software-defined vehicle mean exactly? Like it’s all run by code?

Yeah basically—more stuff controlled by software instead of just hardware. So things like driving features, safety systems, etc. can be updated over time.

@Willie
Ah got it. So kinda like Tesla with all their over-the-air updates?

Exactly, same idea.

FPT doing hands-on training in Subaru’s Japan plants sounds serious though. Not just fluff.

True, sending engineers both ways means they’re really syncing up. Wonder how much it’ll affect future Subarus.

They mentioned next-gen safety systems… wonder if that means better ADAS stuff?

Probably. Subaru already has EyeSight, maybe this is the next level version of it?

Anyone know if FPT works with other car brands or just Subaru?

From what I read, they’ve got ties to multiple brands. But looks like Subaru’s their big focus for now, especially in Japan.
