I found my insurance to be surprisingly low. Boston is known for high insurance rates, but I’m paying $160/month for my new 2024 Outback. I have 5 years of driving experience, no tickets, and no accidents.
For comparison, a 2015 Camry costs about the same for me at $160/month.
Does Subaru generally have lower premiums than other cars? Or is it the opposite? Anyone know why?
I pay $115/month for my Forester—full coverage with a $100 deductible for comprehensive, $200 for collision, and $1M bodily injury / $500K property damage limits.

I bumped my deductible from $200 to $1000 and saved $400 per year. Should’ve done it earlier—my premium is now $750 annually.

I’m in Boston (Medford) with a 2024 Outback & 2016 Crosstrek. Clean driving record. We pay $3,000/year (~$125/month for both).
We also have higher liability limits due to an umbrella policy.
Try shopping with local insurance companies like Hanover Insurance instead of national carriers.
$98/month for a 2025 Forester in Los Angeles.
Adding an Outback to my other 3 cars increased my insurance by only $45/month for full coverage. Pretty cheap to insure!
$70/month for a 2022 Forester in Portland, Maine.
Pennsylvania rates:
Full coverage with $100 comprehensive & $500 collision deductible.
$188/month for a 2023 Forester Premium in Virginia.
2021 WRX STI, $70/month full coverage with State Farm. I’m 28 and in Cleveland.
$80/month for my 2023 Forester in New Hampshire, about an hour from Boston.
Washington State:
No accidents, 41M, only driver on the policy.
2024 Subaru: $68/month, while my husband’s 2015 Honda is $48/month.
Not a big price jump for a much newer car.
Near Rochester, NY, I pay $119/month for my 2019 Legacy 3.6R.
If I still lived in rural Michigan, it would’ve been $135/month.
$1,600 per year for 250/500/250 BI & UM, full coverage, 2023 Legacy in Northeast Florida.
Insurance is high here no matter what.
$120/month in Portland, OR, full coverage with State Farm.
2015 Impreza, $40/month for liability only.
Switched from a 2016 Chevy Malibu to a 2019 Outback and my premium dropped by $20/month.
Oddly, my mom’s 2017 Legacy (same insurance company) is almost twice as expensive as my Outback. Not sure why.
Does US insurance tend to be more expensive? Some of these rates seem high.
In Canada, I pay $53 USD/month for a 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness with $250 collision, $500 comp, & $1M liability.
Also have a ‘grand touring’ package that covers rental, hotel/meals if my car is inoperable, and roadside assistance.
