Sun Shade Button Sunk In? Little Worried Since This Is My First Car - Lexus ES350 2008

You might have to pop the panel off to access the button.

I thought that might be the case too.

Don’t worry, it’s fixable! Use a small flat-head screwdriver with some tape at the end to pry off the plastic surrounding the button. It should come out as one piece, but it might take some force. Then, remove the connectors. Hopefully, the button just popped out of its tabs, and you can wiggle it back in. If the tabs are broken, you can search for a used part on eBay. If you want, upload a photo of the back once you get it out.

Sounds good! I can definitely try that when I’m free. Thanks so much!

Bam! That’s how you do it!

Check if you can reach it from below. Push it out until it clicks. What is the panel to the right? Be patient, prying plastic can be frustrating. Those colored parts can be quite pricey to replace.

Good idea! Try looking from below to see if you can reach the switch and push it back in place. You should hear a click when the clips re-engage. It could be easier than taking the lower panel apart.

As another option, since the shade button is already disconnected, stick two fingers in that hole and pull the whole panel towards you. It should come out with minimal effort. Just be careful not to apply too much force.

Just a heads up, if you break it, it’s not the end of the world. It’s a relatively affordable part (I found one for $22 on eBay: Lexus ES350 2007-2009 Sunshade Trunk Lid & Fuel Door Release Switch OEM | eBay).

Good luck with the repair! Plastics do break, things happen… so if it’s a total loss in the end, don’t stress. YouTube videos paired with your new part will help. Also, when removing plastic trim, use a PLASTIC SPUDGER or a tool made for removing plastic trim to avoid damaging the leather around it.
