Hey everyone, I’m dealing with a starter issue on my 1998 Toyota Camry. When I try to start it, there’s just this clicking noise. My brother-in-law managed to fix it last time with a wrench, so IDK if it just needs a tap or something. Battery and lights seem fine. Any ideas?
That clicking sound usually means it’s the starter. Sometimes tapping it with a wrench or something heavy can work temporarily. Did you try that?

Not yet, but I’m gonna try tapping it. Just hoping I don’t break anything lol.

You’ll be fine! Just a few gentle taps. If it works, that probably means the starter is on its way out, though.
Had the same issue on my old Camry! Turned out to be loose battery connections. Try wiggling them and see if it helps.

Oh, good idea. I’ll check the connections too, thanks!

No prob! Sometimes it’s just something simple like that.
FYI, if it’s the starter itself, you might want to look up a video on YouTube. There’s one that shows exactly where it is and how to give it a little tap.

What’s the video called? I have a ‘99 Camry and might need this info too lol.

Search for ‘98 Camry starter location - should be easy to find. It’s a pretty popular problem.
If it’s a 4-cylinder, the starter’s a bit easier to get to. Are you comfortable working on it yourself?

Yeah, I’ve done a few small repairs. Not an expert, but willing to try!
If tapping doesn’t work, you might have to replace the starter. It’s not too bad if you’ve got the right tools. And YouTube is your friend!

Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind! Hopefully, a tap will work for now.
