Think I put too much coolant in… is this a problem?

I might have overfilled the coolant reservoir. Should I be worried? Do I need to take some out, or will it fix itself?

Yep, you definitely overfilled it.

Will this cause any problems? Should I take some out?

It’ll sort itself out over time.

I’d take some out. When the engine warms up, it’ll push coolant out through the overflow hose, making a mess in your engine bay and on the road.

@Barrett
If it’s not coming out the top, it’s not really a big deal. The expansion tank is designed to handle it.

Worst case, some coolant spills over. Nothing serious.

I’d siphon some out. If it overflows, coolant could end up on the engine and get sucked into the heat/AC system. It won’t damage anything, but it’ll stink.

@Jori
People really love to make stuff up.

@Jori
Got it… I already removed some. Thanks!

That’s actually the overflow tank, not the reservoir. Make sure to check the radiator or the actual reservoir on the engine—it’s usually got a round cap with a yellow or orange label.

Yeah, that’s the one I meant. English isn’t my first language. I drained some out, all set now.

If you completely drained the coolant, filling the overflow tank won’t fill the cooling system. And even if it did, it wouldn’t be enough.

Use a turkey baster to suck some out.

That’s what she said.

If the engine was already hot when you took the picture, you’re probably fine.

No big deal.

Yeah, you should take some out. Turkey baster works great. Speaking from experience.

Not really a problem.

You would’ve been fine leaving it.
