Thinking about a 2008 Forester … is it a good deal

I was looking at a 2008 Forester and wanted to hear what you all think. Is this a solid buy or should I be worried about anything? Any common issues to check for?

That price seems fair for the miles. I have a 2008 Forester myself, bought it at 110k miles and now it’s at 128k after 2.5 years, no major issues so far.

Feels almost too good to be true, so I’m a bit skeptical.

But it’s nice to hear some positive experiences, makes me feel a little better about it!

Why take it to a Subaru dealership? Any good local mechanic should be able to check it out for you.

There are plenty of mechanics around, but I don’t know any well enough to trust them. Feels like unless you know someone personally, it’s hard to get an honest opinion.

I figured a Subaru dealer might have a better idea of what to look for.

Dealerships aren’t always the best option :sunglasses:. Try looking for an independent shop with solid reviews and get a pre-purchase inspection if you’re unsure.

68k miles on a car that old? That’s super low. Have you checked Carfax or anything like that? I’d be a little skeptical. Not impossible, but definitely worth double-checking.

It’s low but not unheard of. I have a family member who barely drove their 2011 Legacy and sold it 9 years later with under 25k miles on it.

I got a 2012 with 75k miles and thought that was low. If everything checks out, sounds like a solid deal. Definitely get a pre-purchase inspection though.

Ask for the Carfax and go over the whole car. You want to make sure the previous owner actually kept up with maintenance. Check for any hidden issues too. If everything looks good, sounds like you might have found a good deal!

Have someone who knows cars take a good look at it. It might need some maintenance, but if it’s in good shape, sounds like a decent price.

Some cars just don’t get driven much. There’s an ‘03 Impreza near me that still only has 8,000 miles on it.
