Thinking about tires for this trail… any advice?

Here’s a picture of the road I’m talking about

That looks like an easy dirt road. You’ll be just fine with the tires you already have.

A lot of people on this forum like the Falken Wildpeaks. They are good all-terrain tires that don’t make much road noise and don’t hurt gas mileage too badly. They used to be cheaper, but now prices have gone up. I just put Falken Rubitreks on mine. They’re almost the same but a little quieter and cheaper. They have good tread and the same mileage promise as the Wildpeaks. Really happy with them.

I’m running Falken Wildpeak AT4s on my 4th gen and they’re awesome. Very quiet on the road. When I air down to about 10 psi, they do great in mud and on slick rocks.

I walked that trail before. It was closed to cars when I was there. If it’s open now and you have a 4x4, you’ll be fine on your current tires. With some driving skill and momentum, you could probably even do it in 2WD.

@Tal
We’re allowed to drive in there now, but you need a permit. I have mine already.

Can you tell me how you got the Kaena Point Vehicle permit? I just got Falken Wildpeak AT4s on my 24 Tacoma and would love to bring my kids out there sometime.

I really like the Pathfinder AT tires, but for that trail you don’t need anything different than what you have now.

I was thinking about doing this trail too but my Tacoma is only 2WD. Can you make it in 2WD?

Based on the photo you shared, you should be totally fine.

Go when it’s dry and you’ll be fine even stock. If it’s muddy, lower your tire pressure to about 20 psi or less and just keep your speed up. I took my brand-new 3rd gen up Peacock Flats when it only had 600 miles and had no problems.

Did you black out your wheels yourself with vinyl?

I noticed that too. Looks way better than the factory look. Haven’t seen it done like that before.

I saw kits on eBay for around $25. Honestly been thinking about doing it too.

Yeah I did it myself. I really didn’t like the silver look at all lol.

You could probably do it on racing slicks if you really wanted to haha.

I just put Cooper Strongholds on my 2022 Sport and they look awesome. They drive really well too. For a road like that, you probably don’t even need all-terrain tires unless it rains and gets muddy.

Edit: Tried uploading a picture but this forum wouldn’t let me.

Here’s another photo of the trail if anyone’s curious

A lot of people around here like the Falken tires. I had BF Goodrich A/Ts on my old 97 Wrangler and later had the KO2s on my 2011 FJ Cruiser. Loved them in all kinds of conditions, especially in sand. They’re really strong tires.
