Thinking of bigger wheels for my Yaris… need advice

Hey everyone, I have a 2007 Yaris Sedan base model with 175/65/14 tires, and honestly, they feel way too small and skinny. I want to upsize but not sure what my best options are. I know 185/60/15 is a common upgrade, but what about the bolt pattern? Would it be 4x100x15? Not sure how all those numbers work. If I go up in size, I know I’ll need new wheels too, so any advice would be great! Also, if anyone has pics of their setups, that would really help. Thanks!

I have the stock 185/60/15 on my ‘08 sedan. Looks way better than the 14-inch ones.

Yeah, that’s what I’m looking for! Probably drives way better than those skinny 175s too. So the bolt pattern is still 4x100, but what about the rims? I know they’re 15-inch, but what else do I need to check? Offset?

@Galen
Yeah, you’ll want an offset between +40 and +45.

Yep, the bolt pattern is 4x100.

What’s your main reason for upgrading? Are you going for looks, or do you want better handling?

If it’s just for looks, a tire shop can help you pick a good set of rims. They’ll also check things like offset to make sure they fit properly.

If you’re after better handling, you might want to start with better tires first. Wider tires will help, but they also make steering heavier, might get close to the fenders or struts, and cost more (especially low-profile ones).

I upgraded to Bridgestone Turanza Serenity, and they made a huge difference in grip, especially in the rain.

For reference, the Yaris uses a 4x100 bolt pattern.

@Zaren
Definitely want better handling, especially when cornering. The skinny 175s feel terrible for that. I’m not looking for anything crazy, just thinking 185 or 195 instead. Just need to figure out what wheel size goes with them.

I tried this on my ‘07, and honestly, I wouldn’t do it again. If it’s just for looks, you might be better off with some nice wheel covers over the stock steel wheels.

How big did you go? I know OEM has both 175 and 185 options. I’d love to try 185 or even 195—not looking to do anything extreme, just a small upgrade. The 175s feel like bicycle tires lol.

Go for 195 if you can. 195/50 on 16-inch rims with 4x100 should work. You’ll get better grip, but it might slightly affect fuel economy.

If you really want to push it, there’s also a 205 option with 17-inch rims, but those are a bit harder to find.
