I’m thinking about trading in my Genesis G70 3.3. It’s a really fun car and I came from a Stinger GT before this (same platform).
But with how things are going money-wise, I’ve been looking at the Corolla Hybrid. I wouldn’t lose money on the trade, and the better gas mileage and cheaper insurance are a bonus.
I’m mostly wondering what people here are paying every month for their Corolla Hybrid, both car payments and insurance. And what’s your opinion on the LE model?
I know going from 430 horsepower (with tune and bolt-ons) to about 100 HP is going to be a big change, but honestly, I don’t mind that too much.
You should maybe look at the Camry Hybrid or even the Prius. I get that you’re saying going from 430 HP to 100 isn’t a big deal, but you might feel it when you’re trying to get onto the freeway and need more speed. The Camry and Prius cost more, yeah, but you’ll get better acceleration with the same kind of gas mileage.
@Amory
To me, the Camry doesn’t feel that different from the Corolla. It still feels like an economy car with light, cheap-feeling doors—even on the higher trims. I’d rather just go with the cheaper one if they feel the same. I’m just curious how people who actually own the Corolla Hybrid feel about it after a while.
I know the Prius is around $30k, which is more than I want to spend. My friend has a Corolla Hybrid and another friend has a Camry Hybrid. The Camry gets about 50 MPG, but the Corolla gets closer to 60. That’s something I’m really thinking about.
A Corolla Hybrid and a Genesis are two totally different kinds of cars. Having a lot of horsepower is fun at first, but that feeling fades. You’re going to see all kinds of numbers for loan payments and insurance depending on the person. If you don’t drive aggressively, it won’t feel like a downgrade at all. You’ll probably end up saving a lot, which is a win.
@Daryn
Yeah, the trade-in is pretty much a done deal. I was just looking to hear how people feel about owning the Corolla over time.

You’re really going to like being part of this forum. Lots of people here love their Corollas.
I also thought about getting the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Blue. I like Hyundai’s tech and safety features. I’ve driven both, and Hyundai’s lane assist feels way ahead of Toyota’s. You can almost let it drive itself in traffic.
The thing I worry about is the engine. Hyundai uses a GDI engine that’s known to have carbon build-up issues. Toyota’s hybrid system has been solid for years. So even if I can get the Elantra for about $2,000 less, I feel like it might end up costing me more down the road.
