Thoughts on Oil Change at Toyota vs Lexus

Go with whatever is easiest

When it gets complicated though they will often give you the It’s not possible to cross reference Lexus parts with Toyota parts line

That’s actually true It’s hard to interchange part numbers sometimes which might need a call to the other brand Some parts a Toyota dealer can look up for a Lexus but some parts they can’t

I used to get my oil changes done at Toyota for my Lexus My dealership doesn’t like that anymore after years of doing it So I went to the Lexus side and asked an advisor if they could match the Toyota price They couldn’t do it exactly but it ended up being $89.99 compared to $79.99 at Toyota

Honestly that annoyed me but I could have spent more elsewhere I almost just went to another shop

@Charlotte
Toyota refused your business That’s unusual Did they explain why

@Charlotte
The extra $10 is worth it for a loaner vehicle or home pickup

Certain services for Lexus can only be done at Lexus, mainly things related to the electronic system Everything else can be done at a Toyota dealer Transmission fluid exchange is the same and much cheaper at Toyota

It’s just oil It will be fine

I have the same car and year Go find a trustworthy local mechanic or tire shop and save a lot of money

Volvo S60 Lexus RX 350 Toyota RAV4 family The only time they’ve seen the inside of a dealership was for warranty or recall work

I’ve been taking my IS 250 to Toyota for years The customer service isn’t nearly as good as at Lexus but the Toyota dealership is just 20 minutes away compared to 90 minutes to reach Lexus They have the oil I need and can rotate my tires too

Any dealer or independent mechanic can take care of that for you Toyotas and Lexus models are common and easy to work on At Lexus you get snacks coffee and maybe a loaner car plus they sit you down and tell you your brakes are about to fail and your vehicle isn’t safe to drive Toyota just does oil and brakes cheaper and that’s it

I just paid $200 for an oil change and tire rotation at the Lexus dealer

Toyota is a good option and will cost less You avoid the Lexus markup for a nicer waiting area and possibly a complimentary wash An oil change at my local Toyota dealer is $105 while at Lexus it’s $250

I just do it in my garage I specialize in Toyota and Lexus cars What a coincidence that I own these brands

No Only go to Lexus dealership because they have the secret scrolls You think any professional mechanic can change oil You’re mistaken

LOL

Your 4th gen RX 350 shares the same powertrain as the 3rd gen Highlander If the Toyota dealer can do an oil change on a Highlander they will definitely handle your RX It’s actually cheaper to go to them

To see how the pricing works call your Lexus dealer for an oil change quote for the RX Then call Toyota for a quote on a 16 V6 Highlander They probably charge more at Lexus

I had an Acura They always wanted to sell me extra services I didn’t need Honda just did what I wanted for less money Go to Toyota if it’s cheaper If prices are the same choose what’s comfortable for you

I always take my ES to the local Toyota dealer for oil changes because they are just five minutes from home but they don’t do warranty work which I haven’t needed in my three years and 50,000 km of owning the car

The oil change on your vehicle is really simple Just takes 10 minutes at most Do it yourself and save some cash Also I suggest changing the filter housing to an aluminum one if yours is plastic Some have plastic and some have aluminum The plastic can crack over time

@harry
Get the oil filter cap with a 1/2 inch drive that fits ONLY the very bottom of the oil filter housing Don’t use the caps that engage cut-outs on the filter housing cap They can cause issues
