Took off my front sway bar… why did I wait so long?

Swapped out my Fox coilovers for a new set and saw the front sway bar sitting there. Decided to just yank it out while I was already working on the truck.

It rides way better on rough roads now. It does lean more in turns but nothing scary. I’m using 650lb springs.

Can’t wait to get it out on a trail soon.

Take corners slower now. Feels great off road but there’s more chance of rolling if you push it.

Yeah for sure… been a bit more careful since the swap.

You’ll notice it if you corner too hard. Mine lifts the inside front wheel when I get too aggressive.

@Masitsa
Wait really? That actually happens?

Yeah, when you take a sharp turn fast, the weight shifts and the inside tire can come off the ground. It’s not dangerous if you’re expecting it, but definitely a heads-up.

It depends on what shocks and springs you’re using but yeah, letting independent suspension actually do its thing helps a lot. You can even add a rear sway bar and it’ll give more flex up front. A guy from Tinkerers Adventure made a whole video on it.

I cut the sway bar links when I put in my new suspension. Figured I’d put them back or relocate later. That was a year ago… don’t think I ever will.

Same. Thought it’d be temporary. Turns out I don’t miss it at all.

I always find this a little weird. Engineers do include sway bars for a reason. If you ever have to swerve hard or dodge something fast, no sway bar means way more chance of tipping the truck.

I used to run my old Ranger from the 90s without a sway bar and it was great off road. It soaked up everything. I wouldn’t do it on my 2024 though.

@Rylan
Wish they had something like the Bronco’s sway bar disconnect. That would have been way more useful than stuff like those weird shock-absorbing seats.

Some trims do have a stabilizer bar disconnect, right? I don’t have it in my Off-Road Premium, which is surprising, but I think the Pro version must have it?

@Rylan
Yeah Trailhunter has it for sure. I’m pretty sure the Pro does too. Off-Road models can sometimes get it as an option.

@Rylan
I’ve got it on my Off-Road trim. I don’t use it much unless it’s icy or really bumpy. Makes even basic forest roads feel way nicer though.

I’ve got the long bed and I wonder if it’s just not available on those. I’ve got most of the options except that and the hybrid.

@Rylan
Yeah and no manual trans either. Trailhunter long bed has both the SDM and hybrid—but you’ll pay extra for it.

I loved my old Tacoma but Toyota missed the mark with the 4th gen. They added stuff like shock seats instead of making the truck better where it matters.

Yeah I get that… but I think they set trucks up for everyday drivers. Without a sway bar it won’t feel as planted in corners and that could be a problem for someone who’s not expecting it. For trail driving though, the difference is huge.
