I’m torn between the Highlander and Sequoia and could use some advice.
We’re a family of five living in MN with three pre-teen kids. While we like the Highlander, it feels a bit small for us. The Sequoia offers tons of space, better 4WD, and towing capacity, but the MPG is quite poor, and it’s more expensive.
For those who have owned both vehicles, what would you recommend considering our family size and needs?
Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated!
These cars are entirely different from one another. A truck with a body on frame is the Sequoia. It is essentially a Tundra with a wheelbase that is marginally shorter. The crossover vehicle Highlander is unibody. In real terms, that means the Sequoia can tow around 40% more efficiently than the Highlander, but the Highlander will get better mileage and offer a more pleasant ride.
Yes, the Highlander can tow a 3,500-pound trailer, but you won’t believe it. Undoubtedly braking and ascending hills.
I would choose the Highlander if it is meant to be a daily driver with the occasional tow vehicle. Make sure to verify the particular trim level’s towing capabilities. For instance, I think the Highlander Hybrid’s towing capacity is insufficient.
I believe the Highlander has a larger payload capacity than the Sequoia, even if the Sequoia has a higher towing capacity. The Highlander might be even more advantageous when the tongue weight, luggage, and passengers are taken into account.
