Toyota RAV4 takes the top spot as the best-selling car in the US, beating the Ford F-150?

With a new model coming this year, the Toyota RAV4 is now the best-selling car in the US, including trucks. It has officially overtaken the Ford F-150, which has held the top spot for years.

Probably because F-150 prices are out of control right now. A basic model with a V6 engine and barely any features is selling for 50,000. Who is paying that?

Dealerships have ruined car prices. If manufacturers could sell directly to buyers, prices would be way better.

@Ashton
That will never happen.

Only way I see it happening is if car companies take over dealerships themselves and keep jobs intact.

The MSRP on new cars is already ridiculous. Manufacturers are getting too greedy.

@Brown
People say they want affordable cars, but then only buy the ones with every feature loaded. It’s supply and demand.

Exactly. People complain about a fully loaded RAV4 being over 40k but won’t even look at the base model for 30k.

@Brown
We just like complaining but won’t change our habits.

People will keep buying expensive cars and then complain about how expensive everything is. It’s a cycle.

What’s worse is that Toyota sells tons of base models, but they all go to rental agencies. Then a year later, they’re sold used with 50k miles for nearly the same price.

Leasing is also way up because of this. Eventually, all these cars will flood the used market, and prices will go down.

F-150s aren’t marked up. The MSRP itself is just that high.

Honestly, the F-150 being the top seller for so long never made sense. Most people don’t need a truck that big. Ford’s marketing has been really effective.

A lot of it is fleet sales. Big companies buy them in bulk, which pushes the numbers up.

I’d love to read an analysis on how pickup trucks became so popular. There’s got to be more to it than just marketing.

@Darby
A lot of it had to do with tax incentives. Trucks had different regulations and could be written off for business expenses, making them more attractive.

RAV4s are everywhere. They’re efficient, reliable, and just a solid all-around car.

Good looking? That’s debatable.

If you’re over 6 feet tall, it’s not exactly spacious.
